What is the Unit Victor app and what can you do with it?

Unit Victor is the exclusive app for veterans. Completely free to download and use, but with a mandatory one-time registration using your veteran card number. This way we ensure a safe environment for you and your buddies, without uninvited guests. The Unit Victor app was developed by our non-profit foundation of the same name. As a result, you will not encounter intrusive advertisements, and you will never have to pay to use certain functions. Everything is and will remain free to use. Thanks to Unit Victor, you can easily establish and maintain contact with your former colleagues. You will also be the first to know about Defense news and events. Listen to podcasts and read background stories and interviews with the protagonists from all layers of the Dutch armed forces. The focus of our information is not specifically on more serious topics, such as trauma. Our messages vary from very light to topics that are difficult for many veterans to discuss. Nevertheless, we consider the physical and mental well-being of veterans very important. That is why you can easily contact professional care providers and buddies in our app, and you will find advice from various experts by experience. Looking after each other in an accessible and safe way is one of the main reasons why Unit Victor was founded by veteran Hans Nagtegaal. In short, this is the best and only free app that offers everything for veterans.

Unit Victor offers the following

CONNECTION: Keep in touch with old colleagues and find comrades you've lost sight of. You can search for others by name, mission, year, military unit or nickname.

INFORMATION: Find all the information that is relevant to you as a veteran. The app offers a clear overview of veterans events, news about veterans and defense, a practical Q&A and contact details of veterans organizations and aid workers.

CLOSED: The area surrounding Unit Victor is only accessible for and by veterans, thanks to the one-time compulsory registration with your registration number of the Dutch Veteran Institute.

SECURE: Unit Victor gives top priority to the security of your data. All chats are anonymized and secured by means of encryption. You choose the pin code with which you unlock the app, if you have registered once when using the app for the first time. For extra security, it is also possible to choose unlocking by means of your fingerprint.

COMPANY: Stand by your fellow veterans. For fun, and if necessary during a difficult moment. Even if you don't actively use the app yourself, you help other veterans by being reachable and also by collecting data anonymously and encrypted for research.

* Unit Victor is not a medical device.
* Unit Victor uses your phone's internet connection (5G/4G/3G/2G/EDGE or Wi-Fi, if available) to send messages. So sending messages is free. However, data costs may be charged. Contact your provider for more information.
* To display nearby events, accurately measure screen time, and for distance and usage research, Unit Victor (when enabled) uses GPS. When GPS is not available, your approximate location is measured using data from your mobile network. This estimate is accurate to about 100 meters. In other cases, an estimate is made based on the zip code entered during registration. To ensure privacy, a region is used instead of an exact location.
* The battery consumption of your device may increase when using the app.
* Unit Victor can provide insight into your physical activity by means of pedometer data.
